Tutorial: how to make Breyer bulletin boards

Today I have a tutorial planned. I’ve actually been planning this for a while but after a printer problem, among other things, has postponed it. But it’s here today! It’s pretty easy to make, but if you have any questions please let me know!

Supplies:

Thin cork-board (I get mine from the dollar store)

Popsicle sticks (you can use any size)

Glue (I use hot glue but Tacky glue works just as well)

Magazine or computer and printer

Nail file

Scissors

Optional: small chain

Optional: marker

Step 1:

Cut a piece of cork board into a small rectangle. I usually cut it 3 inches by 2 inches but you can do whatever size works for you.

Step 2:

Take one of your popsicle sticks and cut it in half the long way. Don’t worry if it’s not straight. You will fix this in the next step.

Step 3:

Take one of the pieces of popsicle stick you just cut. Use the scissors to cut it some more and/or use the nail file to sand it down to the size you want.

Step 4:

Then cut it to the correct length.

Repeat this step until you have all four sides looking like the one we just did.

Step 5:

Now you are going to glue them on. I use a hot glue gun because it is faster, but Tacky glue works just as well. I would recommend Tacky glue if you’re just starting, because then if the side isn’t just where you want it, you have time to move it before the glue dries.

Repeat for all 4 sides so all the popsicle stick wood is on and it looks like this:

Step 6:
Now you are going to take the nail file and sand any rough edges.

Step 7:
Some cork boards have a back that you can peal and stick somewhere, like a sticker. If yours does have a sticky back then this step is optional. If yours does not  have a sticky back then I highly recommend using this step instead of glueing your board onto something.

You can take a bit of small chain and glue it onto the back of your board. This way you can hang it more easily. It should look like this:

Step 8:
Now for the fun part! You get to pick out your theme! You can print and cut out pictures of your favorite Breyer herd members; make mini drawings; and so many other things! But with BreyerFest coming up soon, I decided to do a Driving Forward theme!
Have fun putting your mini pictures on!

Step 9:
After your little pictures/drawings/etc. are on your cork board, you have two options. You can leave it as it is:
Or you can use a marker and color the sides

Step 10:
Now this is another step that you could do or just leave the board the way it is. If you want to get really realistic, you can take clay and make tiny little balls to be nails holding the pictures up. You could also use marker. It’s completely up to you!

Step 11:
This is by far the most important step!!! If you don’t do this then all your hard work will be for nothing… ENJOY!😊
